Living Like A Backpacker
30 July 2009
It has occurred to me that it really is possible to live a lot cheaper than I am doing right now. Most of the things I spend money on, or that generate monthly bills, are a result of having to do the work that is done to pay them. Take a vehicle, for instance. My payment is really made to two different places, one the place that sold the vehicle, and two, the place that I borrowed the money from. If I did not need a vehicle, then I would not need to pay! Say I decided to live in a tent, then I could do away with any mortgage payment, other than a few dollars for the land. And the tent, being small, would need less heat.
Eating a vegetarian diet, too, would give great monetary savings. I figure I could slash my food bill by maybe 60%, and maybe lose a few pounds as well!
Hmm, now I think of it, there are two ways to be rich - one is to have a large income, the other is to have low living expenses.

Life Insurance - You Might Be Sorry If You Don't Have Any!
It is not often that we get to pay for something that we would rather not use, but life insurance surely fits that description. I mean, we are all going to die at some time, and it is great to know that if it occurs before we expect it to, then we will not have caused a burden on our families. There is really no excuse for not having life insurance, even just a small policy, enough to cover expenses that might occur, such as, for instance, paying off our credit card debt, or even the basic funeral expenses. Term insurance is often the most inexpensive way to purchase a substantial death benefit on a coverage amount per premium dollar basis, and it is possible to obtain a term life insurance quote online.

Land Might Be A Bargain Right Now
As my Hubby says, 'They aren't making any more land'. It is a fact that even looking at the current blip in the normal way things happen, land and property is an item that can never go down in price for very long, simply because the population of the world is always increasing. Now, back to that blip. It has people tending to back off on buying things, even when their own situation is in fact quite secure. Then, later on, after the panic is over, we will all be shaking our heads in regret for not taking advantage of the low prices while they were available. And, the greater the property desirability, the greater the price increase will be. That is why Outer Banks foreclosures should be looked at closely. The prices are way under value, once things get back to normal. And remember, prices increase on a percentage basis, so, the more you invest, the greater the rewards.

The Advantage Of Review Websites
29 July 2009
When we are shopping for something, it is normal to shop around for the best deal, at least unless relatives own a store and you are expected to support them in their business! Anyway, instead of trudging around from place to place, mall to mall, store to store, by shopping online it is easy to do some comparative shopping, and even easier to compare things when we use a review website. They are not always available of course, but for products such as diet pills, it is a good way to go in order to get a good overall impression of whether a particular product is what you are looking for.

Maybe I Am Chubby!
28 July 2009
Chubby is a funny word. So much more fun sounding than being fat. It is also younger sounding somehow, like a teenager can be chubby, but a mother over 30 years of age will be considered fat, or 'overweight'. Anyway, good exercising and an attention to the amount and type of food eaten can go a long way to prevent me being chubby. Add to that some good diet supplements, and I have a chance of fitting into a bikini, which is surely better than being able to wrap myself around a ZUCCHINI !

I Have A Stepdaughter!
It sounds funny when I say it, but I have a stepdaughter. She is actually only a few years younger than I am, so she is in a way more like a younger sister. Right now she is staying with me, and at some point once her paperwork comes through, she will be joining her guy in Florida. This should work out great for me, because then I can fly down there to indulge myself in Florida vacations any time I like. Now, all I have to do is figure out who will do my work while I am gone!

What is a 'locked' cellphone?
I always have the feeling that whichever carrier I use for my cellphone service, I am getting an overpriced service. I am sure that part of the problem is the 'free' phones that I tend to get. My Hubby tells me that the phones are not free, they are paid for by the service somehow, and that it is cheaper to get a phone elsewhere and then use it on the system, as that way you get a better deal on the monthly plan. What he means by this is that it is possible to buy what is known as an unlocked phone, that is, it can be used freely on any system that uses the frequencies etc of the particular phone service supplier, and those frequencies are pretty standard. When you buy a phone from your carrier, they 'lock' it so you cannot use it on another carriers system, even when the frequencies match. Certainly worth looking at.

Summer Hasn't Arrived Yet?
27 July 2009
We went out on a family outing last Saturday. To a place called Magic Mountain, near Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. It is a water park, although there is a zoo there and other features, but the main attraction is the water park part of it all.
Anyway, it was cloudy, and above all, windy. Nothing like getting out of a swimming pool or waterslide to be met with a 50 MPH wind, or at least it felt that it was 50 MPH. Note to self - check the weather more carefully before committing to a trip out! Have to say though, it made a nice break, and Hubby did the drive home, so it seems he does have his uses!

Jewelry Should Be Romantic!
One way that designers of jewelry can make it be more romantic is by incorporating older styling techniques within the new styles that they produce. Take for instance a filigree appearance. It has been around for centuries, yet can add great style to new designs. The same applies to heart jewelry of any kind. As a motif, it is surely the most acceptable design for giving a 'say it with' feeling. Whether used for earrings, necklaces, or bangles, the heart will, I am sure, always be popular.

Save Energy = Save Money
My Hubby is always talking about boats. He is also always talking about being self-sufficient in energy, particularly for boating. One of the things they seem to recommend for boats and RV's is using LED or fluorescent light bulbs. These are what are known by some people as energy light bulbs, because they save energy. But it is not just for the RV or boat, these can show considerable savings in the home as well, particularly in summer, when an incandescent bulb, giving out more heat than it does light, can also add to your cooling costs.

Light Fixtures - The Newer Capability
25 July 2009
One of the changes that have occurred in recent years is the availability of compact fluorescent light bulbs. If we look more closely at the whole scene, we can see that it is the same as computers, when the more advances there are in games, the faster the computer has to be, and the faster the computer is, the faster the upcoming games can be. In the case of lighting, the compact fluorescents have allowed the newer light fixtures, or at least some of them, to have a design that would have been impossible a few years ago, due to the heat produced by incandescent bulbs. Another difference with light fixtures is that they can now put out more light, as the energy is used to produce greater light and less heat.

Is This El Nino, or What?
23 July 2009
Seems to me that all we have had up here on the Atlantic coast of Canada is humidity and rain this summer. I can remember a few years back, we could guarantee good weather for going camping, but now all we can guarantee is getting wet, or at the best, moist! Same with the winters. Less snow, more warmer spells that are above freezing, so more ice when it re-freezes.
Now, if I can find the right crop for this, I can take up farming!

Slimming by the pill method
Slimming is a problem for most of us in North America. The diet, the food available, especially the processed food, is not as healthy as 'old fashioned' food, like we used to eat years ago. So, we have to change what we can, such as maybe get a bit more exercise, and try to eat less. Then of course there are diet pills, fat burners, or appetite suppressors, and you have to decide which are the best diet pills for you.

Will Hubby Get Back To Work, Or Not?
14 July 2009
My Hubby is looking at going back to work. He wants to buy a sailboat, not like the dinghy he already has and is fixing up, but a proper sailboat that we could take a vacation on. Seems like it might be a good time to buy, with such things being sold off at really low prices in certain areas, particularly the southern US states. As for me, I really prefer to keep my feet on dry land!

Moving For Job Seeking?
It is a fact of life that some of us are having to become more mobile to fit in with the current financial crunch. Lower paying jobs become more attractive if you are in the position of having no job at all. It is well worth getting quotations from long distance moving companies as well as places that have traditionally seemed cheaper, such as trailer hire places. The stress of hauling your own stuff might not be worth it in he long run, particularly if a long distance is involved.

Get Together with Friends - save money!
13 July 2009
Here is an interesting thought. We all tend to use the same things in life, for instance, food, we buy a can of beans, and maybe a friend buys one too. Now, say we apply this to somewhat more valuable items, such as, say Ipods - I'll bet that most kids want one if they haven't already got one. So, here is my idea, we get a few friends together, and decide how much to spend each month on things, then we can look at places where they sell wholesale electronics, and buy in bulk. Then if there are still some items left over, we put them up for sale locally. Could be the start of an interesting little business.

A Summer With No Sun?
03 July 2009
Here we are, well into what in the past has been called summer, and yet each day the weather forecast includes a good chance of rain. What I find more annoying is that it is very humid, especially after the showers that we seem to be getting. We are also experiencing those mass ant appearances, where the large ones, (queens?) and the other large ones with wings are appearing. Maybe global warming will mean that we get overrun with insects.
Anyway, I for one will be really happy when the old summer style returns!

Diet Pills
Diet pills are getting to be a product that allows some really wise shopping for. I guess that the competition has gotten more fierce in the last little while. Buying online is a great way to allow that same competition to work in your favor, as buying locally, especially if you live in a rural area, can mean that you might buy diet pills from a place that has a captive market. Worth looking at anyway, might be a chance to save a few dollars.

Industrial Supplies - Hubby Saves Money Again!
02 July 2009
My Hubby has bought an old sailing dinghy, and is trying to get it into workable condition. It was just a hull when he bought it, and he now has some repairs done to the outside of it, and has fitted a thing called a centerboard, I call it a wooden keel. So, now he just has to paint it, then he will turn it back up the right way, and start fitting the mast etc. He is too cheap to use marine fittings, and has told me that he can find most of the things he wants either at the local hardware store, or from places that deal in industrial supplies. It will be interesting to see what he ends up with!
